Bangkok III: Yaowarat + Thip Samai

October 2014

We each bought a coconut to drink - 30 baht -  and were wandering outside Wat Pho. A Thai approach us and asked where we were going. He was a local bus driver and he helped us to get a Tuk  Tuk and bargain 60 baht from Wat Pho > Lucky Buddha > Yaowarat. Most Tuk Tuk will extort tourists and quote a price of 150 baht.

Lucky Buddha - Free Entry - where Thais come here to pray for their wishes to come true

Here's our Tuk Tuk driver and like all Tuk Tuk drivers, he brought us to places which we orignally had no plans to go to such as Gem Gallery, wholesale jewellery shops and a tailor shop so that he can earn free gasoline for his Tuk Tuk by bringing tourists to all these places.

But he wasn't a good Tuk Tuk driver as when he did not drive us to our final destination and expect us to walk a long distance to Yaowarat

Burapa Bird Nest Soup Shop @ Yaowarat

Different grades of bird nest soup starting from the cheapest 200 baht to 800 baht. We chose the grade that cost 300 baht

Half Boiled egg was put inside the bird nest soup

Tea is served and honey is provided as well.

In Yaowarat, there are numerous Lim Jin Xiang shops which sell various type of pork floss products.

From Yaowarat,  we walked along Thanon Charoen Krung Road to Mahachai Road and passed by Corrections Museum. Sadly, it was closed as it was already after 5pm. It was a small museum which showcase some of the past punishments to the inmates. I may come to visit this museum the next time I visit Bangkok

After more than 20 minutes walk, we reached Thip Samai - the popular Pad Thai Noodle shop at 313 Mahachai Road.
Queue is already forming in the evening and the shop is fully packed.

We ordered 2 types of Pad Thai Road - both cost 80 baht each. The first is Pad Thai Noodle wrapped with egg and the another is Seafood Pad Thai

Check out Thip Samai website @ http://www.thipsamai.com/

Overall, I find Thip Samai's Pad Thai average in taste even though many people blogged about how delicious it was.

Outside Thip Samai, along the road, there's a fish ball noodle highly recommended by a Thai. She loves the spiciness of the noodle at Tee's Yen Ta Fo

Menu in English and Thai

Fishball Noodle with beansprouts and minced pork @ 50 baht. Two bottle of cold water was provided to us even though we did not order them. Guess the stall helper was thinking we will not be able to take the spiciness. But we did manage to conquer the hot spicy taste. It wasn't as spicy as we thought it would be.
