Bangkok III: Bang Rak + Wat Pho Part I

October 2014

Waking up to our second day in Bangkok and it's gonna be a packed day. We will be heading to Bang Rak > Wat Pho > Yaowarat > Thip Samai

Hotel Breakfast

After alighting from Taphan Sapkin BTS, down the escalator which is the opposite direction from the pier, cross the road on the left and walk along
Thanon Charoen Krung towards Bang Rak.
Street food along the road

Arrival at Boon Sap - Must try their coconut sticky rice which is awesome. The coconut topping is soft and smooth like jelly - 25 baht. Mango sticky rice is very common but this is currently the only place I saw selling Coconut Sticky rice. Be there early as it sells fast.

Opening hours of Boon Sap: 7am - 5pm. At 4plus in the afternoon, there is no coconut sticky rice anymore as we returned on our third day for it.

Check out www.boonsap.com (only in Thai language)

Other street food. We walked further ahead after passing boonsap and cross the road to the opposite stall that sells fried bananas.

Buying fried banana fritters from Jae Noy's shop

Love this coconut sticky rice from Boon Sap. I can't wait to come back to Bangkok again to try this coconut sticky rice.

Near Jae Noy's shop, we also bought beancurd to try. Thai Beancurd has added milk and it taste weird to me. The beancurd needs to be mixed well so that the strong condensed milk taste will not be too overpowering.

This beancurd is worth trying for only once

One bowl of beancurd - 30 baht

Thai fried banana fritters are deep fried with batter and sesame seeds and each banana is cut into halves for frying. I prefer banana fritters from other southeast countries as Thai fried banana fritters are very dry and not juicy as compared to others.

One bag of banana fritters cost 20 baht.

As we walk back towards Saphan Taksin BTS, we crossed the road back towards Boon Sap shop and ahead is a stall that sells dried fruit snacks and other tidbits.

Each packet of dried fruit cost 50 baht. I bought one packet of mango and papaya.

Boat ride 15 baht from Saphan Taksin to Tha Tien Pier to visit the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho

Here's a map at Saphan Taksin pier which shows some attractions along the river

Wat Pho Entry ticket - 100 baht which includes a free small bottle of water.
