T.O.K.Y.O: Day 3 Part 1: Meiji Jinggu @ Harajuku

July 2013

Finally, the day to go to Harajuku! Firstly, a visit to Meiji Jinggu 明治神宮 - a shrine dedicated to the Emperor Meiji and the Empress Shoken. It was a ten minutes walk from Harajuku train station to Meiji Shrine.

Entry into the shrine grounds marked by a massive Tori Gate

This is where you rinse your month and hands according to the guided steps written on the wooden block on the ceiling

A little shop selling souvenirs.

500 yen for a wooden plate where you can write your wishes
Read that these wooden plates are gathered until the end of the month and contemplate by the resident monks before burning.

The metal plate at the corner of the door is heart-shaped. Cute!

There are entrances charges of 500 yen to the Treasure House, Treasure House Annex and Inner Garden. Therefore, I didn't visit these places within the shrine.

Meiji Shrine is open daily and free admission to all visitors. A place for tourists to visit one of Japan's most popular shrine
