Waking up to breakfast in hotel: Asakusa Super Hotel. I like this hotel. The room does not have those yellow lighting therefore photographing in the room is less orangey in colour.
Off to Ueno's Ameyoko Street
When we came out of the train, we passed by this confectionery with cute panda bear bread. But I am too full to try it.
Ameyoko (アメ横)
We walked around the street, passed by several shops but I didn't manage to buy anything for myself until I saw two wholesale shops selling snacks and candies. I was so excited over it because I was a junkie when it comes to munching junk food...LOL
My box of soda bubblegum - 60 pieces inside
I watch TV about
monjayaki もんじゃ焼き and I was eager to try it out in Tokyo. Monjayaki is a Japanese pan
fried batter with ingredients which you can select based on your preferences. I read
online about Tsukishima's Monja Street - もんじゃストリートwhere it is said that monjayaki originated from.
Lady Luck shone on
us as the day we decided to go to Tsukishima street, it was having an event
where there were stalls of food and games along the street. There were Japanese wearing traditional
costumes. We were spoiled for choice
over the huge selection of restaurants to go to and we finally settled on one restaurant
since it has pictures of the dishes pasted outside the restaurant. A good way
to attract foreigners like us who do not know how to read much Japanese since it
is hard for us to decide which to go based on Japanese words.
I feel the Japanese
waiter seem very nervous when he was serving us as he hit against the chair
twice when he came over to serve us. With my basic level of Japanese language,
I managed to help the two of us to order a monjayaki set which also includes 2
drinks + okonomiyaki + salad. The waiter helped us to cook it since it is our
first time eating it and had no idea on how to cook it.
Monjayaki in the making!
Monjayaki done! Yummy
Okonomiyaki お好み焼き in the making!
Even the salt
dispenser bottle is panda design. Cute!
